Kate Wiseman
Kate Wiseman spent a long time trying to avoid the inevitable truth that all she wanted to do was write. After sampling various other jobs, including university library assistant, promotions organiser and mopper-up of sick in a nursery, she finally went to Chichester University, gaining a First in English and Creative Writing. A Masters in English Literature followed swiftly and it was only then that she felt ready to confront her dream of writing for children.
Kate lives in Saffron Walden with her husband, son and neurotic cats. She is a vegetarian and animal lover whose hobbies include mud larking, theatre and fainting on famous film directors. |
Her website is katewiseman.uk and she loves to connect on Twitter, where you can find her on @KateWiseman
Kate's debut is a comic adventure for 9+ called Gangster School. The first in the series was first published in October of 2017 in German translation, by Piper Verlag, with three sequels now under contract. Book 1 will be published by both Zuntold in the UK and Uitgeverij in Holland in 2018. Kate is sorry to say that with all this excitement in mind, other books in the series now seem pretty much unavoidable.
Gangster School takes place at Blaggard's, the world's foremost academy for budding young villains and villainesses, where it educates the offspring of only the best - or worst - sort of dishonest folk and prepares them for any and all manner of lives of crime. What nobody is prepared for, however, is two of this year's new kids being increasingly sure that their future career paths involve - shock, horror - going straight.
As an unpublished manuscript, Gangster School was shortlisted for the Montegrappa Scholastic Prize for New Children’s Writing, the Greenhouse Funny Prize and the Children’s Funny Fiction competition at the Winchester Writer’s Festival.

"Gangster School is brimming with villainy, gadgets and giggles. Never mind Hogwarts, if my letter from Blaggard’s doesn’t arrive soon I’m going to forge one myself."
